Welcome to Ysgol y Fro
Ysgol y Fro was founded in 1996 as a federated school, in order to safeguard educational provision in a rural area. The federating of rural schools enables each village to continue to educate their children in their local community. The infant children are educated in the village of Llangyndeyrn, and the juniors are educated in Idole. Each village benefits from school participation in community activities such as Harvest Thanksgiving, local eisteddfods and local shows.
The advantage of being educated in smaller classes remains, whilst the children experience interaction with children of all ages on a Federation Day when all the children come together in one school. Therefore this enables children to make friends with pupils in neighbouring communities. Children in year six find that the transition to secondary school is more enjoyable as they have a wider circle of friends of the same age.
Ysgol y Fro has undergone two successful HMI inspections and has been awarded the Basic Skill Charter Mark for the third time. The number of children attending Ysgol y Fro is consistent and growing. The success of pupils both past and present reflects the success of the school. Federating rural schools is a way of preserving the future of our rural community.
Eco education is put into practice as children travel shorter distances to arrive at school. Ysgol y Fro has achieved Bronze, Silver, Gold and Green Flag status through the Eco Schools scheme.
